-SPECIAL/STANDING COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS-
1. MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT & RETENTION COMMITTEE
DESCRIPTION: This committee leads all recruitment and retention efforts to grow and strengthen the club by attracting new members, welcoming prospective members, and encouraging their ongoing engagement and participation. Responsibilities include promoting the club in the community, coordinating outreach efforts, following up with interested individuals, assisting with member orientation, and developing initiatives that help members feel connected, valued, and involved.
2. HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE
DESCRIPTION: This committee strives to create a warm,
welcoming, and inclusive experience for all members and
guests at club meetings and events. The committee plays
an important role in fostering a positive atmosphere and
strengthening connections within the club. Responsibilities
typically include room set-up, assisting with decor and
refreshments, greeting attendees, supporting fellowship,
and promoting member engagement.
3. MEETING ACTION COMMITTEE - Awareness, Advocacy & Political Engagement
DESCRIPTION: This committee creates opportunities for
members to turn passion into impact by coordinating
simple, hands-on action tasks to complete during our
monthly business meetings such as, writing post cards,
creating protest signs, sending messages to legislators
through ResistBot, making pink ribbon pins for breast
cancer awareness, and other easy, but effective ways to
engage.
4. GUEST SPEAKERS COMMITTEE
DESCRIPTION: This committee identifies and coordinates engaging
speakers who educate and inspire our members while advancing
the club’s mission and goals, including local Democratic candidates,
civil rights advocates, environmental experts, mental health
specialists, female entrepreneurs, and other relevant presenters and
subject-matter specialists.
5.SERVICE PROJECT PLANNING COMMITTEE
DESCRIPTION: This committee identifies and organizes
meaningful opportunities for members to give back and
make a positive impact in our community through service
initiatives with local charities and nonprofits, support for
vulnerable populations, and efforts that promote
compassion and civic care. Activities may include
engagement with schools, animal shelters, food pantries,
domestic violence programs, veterans agencies, and other
organizations in need of assistance.
6. COMMUNITY EVENTS PLANNING COMMITTEE
DESCRIPTION: This committee identifies community events that
celebrate unity, diversity, inclusion, and kindness, while creating
meaningful opportunities for members to engage and maintain
a visible presence at civic and cultural activities in the area.
Community events include MLK parades, PRIDE celebrations,
Black Heritage festivals, Juneteenth commemorations, veteran’s
tributes, informational resource fairs, gun control rallies, and
other community-centered gatherings.
7. MEDIA COMMITTEE
DESCRIPTION: This committee manages the club’s digital and print communications including our website, social media, newsletters, and press outreach. The committee strives to keep our members and the public informed, engaged, and connected to what we are doing as a club through various modes of communication. More specifically, the Media Committee promotes our mission & goals, announces monthly business meetings & club events, posts photos from club activities/events, shares important
Democratic messaging, publishes facts/stats about relevant social issues/policy matters, interfaces with other orgs & Democratic clubs, responds to incoming communications, and works to increase our followers by maintaining a strong presence on our social media platforms.
8. CANDIDATE/CAMPAIGN SUPPORT COMMITTEE
DESCRIPTION: This committee identifies ways the club can support Democratic candidates & campaigns through education, volunteer opportunities, and coordinated engagement. By keeping a pulse on local candidates and maintaining communication
with their campaign teams, the committee determines the most effective ways that our members can help mobilize grassroots support and build coalitions, including, postcard-writing sessions, candidate meet & greets, door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, sign-waving events, social media promotions, and other forms of voter outreach and engagement.
9. FUNDRAISING-WAYS & MEANS COMMITTEE
DESCRIPTION: This committee plans and oversees fundraising activities that provide financial support for the club’s civic programs, service projects, outreach efforts, and community impact endeavors. The committee explores creative and effective ways to generate funds that help advance important club priorities, including contributions to Democratic candidates, covering costs of DWC promotional materials, donating to local charities/nonprofits, offsetting expenses for special events, and funding other club initiatives. Fundraising activities may include car washes, pancake breakfasts,
raffles, merchandise sales, chili cook-offs, walkathons, community yard sales, and other fund-generating ventures.
